"A hug does not by itself resolve the problems we face, but it suggests we have a companion who knows our pain and is devoted to our recovery."
Alain De Botton
En EspaƱol | The support of others when we are sick is vital for our recovery. The feeling of being cared for releases hormones which not only makes us feel better emotionally, but also improves our physical state. But it is not just enough for people to give their attention and care, one must also be willing to receive it, we have to allow the flow between the giving and receiving for the miracle to happen.
It has been shown that the force of social connection is more beneficial than exercise and diet.
Social connection can come from your family, your friends, your caregivers, on-line chats, community centers, support groups, and support hotlines, among others; and although sometimes it might require that we become proactive in the search for connection, its results are most beneficial for our healing and recovery.
